As an addict seeking recovery, you may be feeling overwhelmed, intimidated, lost and alone.  If you have completed inpatient treatment, but are committed to your sobriety and interested in long term care, transitional living may be the perfect solution for you.  At Pathways to Peace, our transitional living provides the ideal mixture of structure and freedom to create a seamless transition from inpatient treatment to independent living.

What is Transitional Living?

Transitional living allows recovering addicts to utilize what they learned in inpatient treatment while continuing to develop in their lives and being supported by caring professionals.  After completing inpatient treatment, recovering addicts may be confused with what step to take next.  They may not be ready to live completely on their own and could benefit from the structure provided by a transitional living facility.  Such an opportunity would provide stability as clients adjust to independent living while continuing their journey to sobriety.

Almost all transitional living facilities have a zero tolerance policy for drugs, alcohol and violence. This policy is implemented to help maintain a safe, sober environment in which all clients have the same opportunity for healing completely.  If the zero tolerance policy is broken, the client will be asked to leave the facility and will only be allowed to return after he or she has completed detox, again.

What to Expect

While participating in transitional living, residents are expected to:

  • maintain sobriety
  • abide by all house rules
  • daily attendance of Twelve Step meetings
  • regular attendance of house meetings
  • incorporate the Twelve Steps of recovery into behaviors and actions
  • remain open-minded when receiving suggestions from managers and staff
  • actively seek employment or volunteer
  • commit to a lease agreement of three to six months (minimum) that must be completed in succession

Staff who are managing transitional living facilities will provide the following services:

  • managers and staff onsite twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to provide assistance
  • routine drug and alcohol testing
  • provide access to intensive outpatient treatment opportunities
  • access to family, individual and/or family counseling
